On the above census return, May, the new wife of Henry Seymour, was the step-mother to the four girls from Henry’s first marriage. Later, May had two daughters of her own. Jane Smith, the family servant, provided devoted service to the Seymour family for more than 30 years (as recorded on census returns from 1881 to 1911).

In the 1901 census Henry's brother Edward Seymour, aged 59 and never married, was living in London as a boarder at 4 Rothwell St, near Regent's Park. His landlord, Adolphus Gebhardt, was a jeweller born in Hanover, Germany (census reference: RG13/133, folio 102, p. 32).
